There have been great advances for people with disabilities as a result of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, but people with disabilities still face discrimination in employment, education, and housing. The ACLU of Maryland has defended the rights of blind individuals to ride public transportation and vote independently, the right of individuals suffering addiction to get medical treatment in their communities, and the right of individuals with limited mobility to access government offices and court buildings.
