Sergio España is the Director of Engagement and Mobilization at the ACLU of Maryland. He focuses on building relationships between ACLU staff and community activists and organizes supporters to advance our public policy, legal, and communications priorities.
Before coming to the ACLU, he worked at the Annie E. Casey Foundation, where he helped strengthen community engagement and grassroots organizing efforts, along with public-private partnerships focused on empowering working families of color to achieve higher wages and better education for their children. Previously, he worked on establishing a statewide campaign for universal healthcare that helped connect rural and urban communities across Maryland to recognize their shared struggle.
Sergio has been a Maryland resident since 1999, having been born in Los Angeles, and spent several years with his family in Guatemala. He as a B.A in Philosophy and a B.A.in Sociology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
