Vote Yes on CB 51
Howard County has a contract with ICE to detain immigrants in the Jessup jail. We are calling upon Calvin Ball and the County Council to vote YES on CB 51 to end this contract TODAY because:
- Howard County’s contract with ICE makes us complicit in a cruel and unjust system.
- ICE practices racial profiling, targeting Black and Brown immigrants.
- While incarcerated, detainees cannot easily find or pay for competent legal representation.
- Continuing the contract with ICE makes Howard County less safe.
- There are proven alternatives to detention.
- Change has to start here. We cannot wait for Washington to act.
- Detention tears families apart.
