ACLU of Maryland honors C. Christopher Brown with 2012 Elisabeth Gilman Award
On Thursday, October 4, the ACLU of Maryland gave C. Christopher Brown the organization's highest honor, the 2012 Elisabeth Gilman Award. Chris serves as General Counsel for the ACLU of Maryland, a volunteer position.
C. Christopher Brown's tireless dedication to civil rights is evident in some of his career highlights: arguing three cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and litigating a series of Voting Rights Act lawsuits, which brought the first African-American officeholders to many Maryland town and county councils.
C. Christopher Brown was a Professor of Law at University of Maryland School of Law from 1975 to 2005 and Emeritus from 2006 to present. He has been named one of Maryland's "Top 50 Super Lawyers", a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and The Daily Record's Leadership in Law Winner. Additionally, he was one of a distinguished group of attorneys who have been listed in Best Lawyers in America for ten years or longer. Chris was selected by his peers for inclusion in Best Lawyers First Amendment Litigation category and in 2012 he was awarded the inaugural Dickens Warfield Fair Housing Award by Baltimore Neighborhoods, Inc. for his years of support in successfully advancing BNI's fair housing litigation.
