Amendments are being proposed and we need to keep up the pressure to make sure that the community-backed recommendations are included. Will you be able to come out this Monday, June 6, to join fellow residents, leaders, and the Prince George's County Coalition for Police Accountability for a press conference and rally?
The press conference is at 2 p.m. before the Council Council hearing at the County Administration Building, 1301 McCormick Dr., Largo, MD 20774. The rally will be held outside right after the hearing, at about 4:30 p.m.
Public comments at the hearing are critical. Will you join fellow Prince George's residents and sign up to testify? We encourage you to sign up as soon as the County Council posts the registration link on Friday evening, June 3. Registration will be open until 3 p.m. on the day before the hearing, Sunday, June 5.
Amendments are now being made to the County's PAB bill. The coalition demands the Council include key amendments:
1. Power for the PAB to hire independent investigators, conduct investigations, and issue subpoenas.
2. Budget for the PAB equal to 1% of the budget for the Prince George’s Police Department
3. PAB membership that reflects the racial, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and cultural diversity of the County, and that does not include former law enforcement officers. It is important that the method for choosing PAB members must be public and transparent, and not just follow “tradition” of being selected only by the County Executive.
