"We are bitterly disappointed by today’s opinion from the Court of Appeals holding that victims of police misconduct have no right to learn anything at all about the police department’s investigation of their complaints, or the discipline imposed on the officers involved. We think that this result cannot be what the legislature intended in drafting Maryland’s Public Information Act, and can think of no category of information that is more important for the public to have access to, and no issue on which transparency in government is more important. But if that is indeed what the law now means, then the law needs to change, and we will do everything in our power to make sure that happens in the next legislative session."
