Baltimore, MD - This Monday, organizations involved in the battle for police accountability will come to Baltimore from areas across the state to set out acceptable principles for police reform before traveling to Annapolis.  The announcement of principles happens on the day of the first meeting of the Legislative Public Safety and Policing Workgroup.

The workgroup, established by the President of the Maryland Senate and Speaker of the House in light of the murder of Freddie Gray, is designed to examine policing policies to recommend reform.  After a failed 2015 legislative session where serious proposals to improve policing received scant attention, activists prepare to hold legislators accountable for real reforms to address the statewide crisis in policing and community relations.  Monday's press conference will set out the standards by which dozens of organizations will measure the success of the workgroup and legislative action.
